Kampung Semera Lot Baru Drainage Upgrade Strengthens Flood Protection

SADONG JAYA – The drainage system in Kampung Semera Lot Baru has been strengthened following the completion of a concrete upgrade under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2025. The RM150,000 project aims to reduce flood risks and improve living conditions for residents.

The handover ceremony took place on Friday. Assistant Engineer of the Malaysian Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) Samarahan Division, Nyuak Iba, handed over the completed works to Village Chief Jamali Serol. The event was witnessed by Rodiyah Sapiee, Member of Parliament for Batang Sadong.

Also present were Idris Ibrahim, special officer to the MP, and Abdullah Sam Yusup, Assistant Administrative Officer of the Sadong Jaya Subdistrict Office, reflecting coordination between government agencies and community leaders.

The project covered preliminary works and the construction of a 300-metre reinforced concrete drain measuring 600mm by 600mm. It began on 28 July 2025 and was scheduled for completion on 24 January 2026. The works finished ahead of schedule on 2 October 2025, showing steady implementation and cooperation on the ground.

The Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Semera Lot Baru supported the effort through gotong-royong activities, highlighting the value of community involvement in local infrastructure projects.

During the visit, DID officers briefed Rodiyah on the need for ongoing maintenance to keep the drainage system functioning well. She urged residents to report issues quickly so authorities respond without delay.

The completed upgrade reflects the state’s continued focus on rural development and flood mitigation. Strengthening basic infrastructure like drainage systems helps protect communities, improve resilience and support balanced growth in rural areas.
