House Burned Down in Kampung Siol Kandis Fire

PETRA JAYA — A two-storey half-timbered house in Kampung Siol Kandis was completely destroyed in a fire that broke out earlier this evening.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), an emergency call was received at 6.52pm, prompting immediate action from the Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP).

A team was quickly dispatched to the scene, and firefighters arrived at 7.03pm, only to find the house already engulfed in flames. The two-storey semi-detached home suffered almost 100 per cent destruction, with only charred remains left standing.

A JBPM spokesperson confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. “Our personnel conducted an overhaul operation to ensure the fire was completely extinguished and to prevent any rekindling,” the spokesperson said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and authorities are assessing the extent of the damage.

Residents nearby reportedly noticed thick black smoke billowing from the house before firefighters arrived. Some attempted to assist by alerting the homeowners and ensuring nearby properties were not affected.

The quick response from JBPM Petra Jaya helped contain the blaze from spreading to adjacent houses, especially in the densely built area of Kampung Siol Kandis.

This incident serves as another reminder of the importance of maintaining safe electrical systems and fire prevention practices in residential areas, particularly in older or semi-timbered homes.

Authorities have urged the public to immediately report any fire-related emergencies through the MERS 999 hotline for rapid response.
