PADAWAN – The Sarawak Government has allocated RM550,000 to support infrastructure and economic initiatives in Kampung Sorot Bunuk, underscoring its commitment to rural development.
Datuk Dr. Jerip Susil, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Transport (Aviation and Roads), announced the funding during the Sorot Bunuk Village Family Day Celebration on Monday.
A significant portion of the allocation, RM500,000 designated for 2026, will fund the construction of a multipurpose hall rooftop, new restroom facilities, and enhanced community spaces.
An additional RM50,000 was granted to the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) to support administrative functions and local cultural programs.
Dr. Jerip, who also serves as the Mambong Assemblyman, emphasized that while electricity access has been established in the area, water supply remains dependent on hill sources.
He urged residents to leverage collective farming projects on their land to boost local income and economic resilience .
In a related development, 43 Tuai Ruang Bilik (KIR) households in the community will be enrolled in the ALAF SESCO Programme, a state initiative providing free electricity connections for rural homes with costs under RM5,000. Since 2023, over 2,500 KIRs in the Mambong constituency have benefited from this scheme.
The event was attended by Padawan Sub-District Office Administrative Officer Julius Scott Sapong, Kuching District Bidayuh Pemancha Raymond Jihap, and Village Chief Midah Jud.
This investment aligns with broader state efforts, such as the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE), which has driven RM125 billion in investments and created 53,000 jobs statewide.
