Kampung Sungai Pegei Fire: 4 Families Lose Home in Mukah Blaze

MUKAH, 7 May 2025 – A devastating fire broke out this afternoon at a rented house in Kampung Sungai Pegei, Mukah, leaving four local families homeless. The incident, which occurred around 1.37 pm, saw flames quickly spread due to strong winds, damaging nearby homes as well.

According to Mukah Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Nicholas Belulin, the house was occupied by four families:

  • Second family: 4 people
  • Third family: 3 people
  • Fourth family: 1 person

“All are locals,” Nicholas said in a statement.

The flames also threatened neighbouring houses, including one occupied by two families—one Indonesian family (4 individuals) and one local family (2 individuals). Another house at the back, occupied by a local couple, was also at risk.

Thankfully, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.

“The fire was successfully contained at 2.15 pm,” Nicholas stated. “Our team managed to stop the flames from spreading to the houses on the left and behind.”

Firefighters from Mukah BBP rushed to the location after receiving an emergency call. Overhaul work was carried out to ensure there was no reignition of the fire, and the operation ended at 4.00 pm.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
