SADONG JAYA – The Kampung Tanjung Kelaso Sports Festival has been hailed as a vital platform for strengthening community bonds, encouraging cooperation, and promoting healthy lifestyles among residents.
Awla Dris, State Assemblyman for Simunjan, said the festival was more than just a recreational event, describing it as a social pillar that guides youth towards positive and beneficial community involvement.
“Sports activities are the best medium to unite communities of all ages, in addition to instilling noble values such as sportsmanship, discipline and tolerance,” he said in a speech delivered by his Special Officer, Raffendy Ariffen, during the festival’s opening and closing ceremony at the Kampung Tanjung Kelaso Futsal Field on Tuesday.
The event, which was marked by lively participation and consensus, provided opportunities for villagers to interact directly, bridging relationships between younger and older generations in a harmonious atmosphere.
Awla emphasised that the true success of such programmes lies not in winning competitions, but in the spirit of togetherness and unity fostered throughout the activities. He noted that the festival highlighted the importance of collective participation in building stronger communities.
He also stressed that the N.25 Simunjan Assemblyman Service Centre remains open to receiving feedback and addressing the needs of the people, ensuring that community prosperity is prioritised.
Awla expressed hope that youth and women would continue to play active roles in organising future programmes, further empowering local communities.
The sports festival showcased the value of inclusivity, encouraging participation across age groups and genders. It also reinforced the idea that sports can serve as a unifying force, instilling discipline, tolerance, and mutual respect among participants.
By promoting interaction and cooperation, the festival has contributed to strengthening social ties in Kampung Tanjung Kelaso, reflecting Sarawak’s broader vision of community development through cultural and recreational initiatives.
