Betong Police Nab Three in Kampung Tuie Housebreaking Case

BETONG, SARAWAK: Police have successfully cracked a housebreaking case in Kampung Hilir Tuie, Pusa, Betong, following a series of arrests around Pusa and Debak. Three local men aged between 29 and 36 were taken into custody.

Betong District Police Chief, DSP Rejali Angong, said the break-in incident was reported on September 12 at approximately 10.50 am. The suspects allegedly stole a water jet machine, a chainsaw, a gas canister, as well as several antiques and copper items, with the total loss estimated at RM2,000.

“The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Betong District Police Headquarters acted swiftly based on intelligence and tips from the public. This enabled us to identify and arrest the three suspects at separate locations,” DSP Rejali stated.

Two of the men have prior records linked to drug offences and violent crimes. Urine screening revealed that two suspects tested positive for amphetamine/methamphetamine. All three are now remanded until September 28 to assist with ongoing investigations.

Several stolen items, including antiques and copper belonging to the victim, have already been recovered. Investigations continue under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 14 years and may include fines or whipping for repeat offenders.

DSP Rejali emphasized the role of the community in crime prevention. “We urge the public to continue providing any information regarding criminal activities. Police and community cooperation is crucial, as law enforcement alone cannot ensure public safety,” he said.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order in Betong, assuring residents that all reports of crime will be thoroughly investigated.
