Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas announced that 19 projects have been completed, five projects worth RM116 million are under construction, and 16 projects valued at RM721 million are set to be tendered this year.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the RM99.9 million Nanga Ibau/Ulu Sungai Ibau Road project on Thursday, Uggah detailed that the initiative includes a 12.5km road, three steel bridges, and supporting infrastructure.
Scheduled for completion by May 2028, the project will benefit 11 longhouses, 219 households, and nearly 1,900 residents, providing access to a health clinic and two primary schools.
As Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, Uggah urged contractors and the Public Works Department (JKR) to uphold integrity, adhere to schedules, specifications, and budgets, and utilize the JKR Project Dashboard for transparent monitoring. He warned of strict action against non-performing contractors. He also highlighted plans to upgrade approximately 1,273.7km of former logging roads in Kapit into a rural road network to improve accessibility.
Kapit Member of Parliament and Minister of Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi emphasized the Sarawak government’s commitment to sustainable rural development, noting the importance of state-federal collaboration in improving infrastructure, living standards, and local economies. “These projects reflect our dedication to empowering rural communities,” he said.
