KAPIT – The search and rescue operation for a drowning victim at Bunsi House, Jalan Atas Sri Balleh, Kapit concluded on Saturday morning after the body was successfully recovered.
Authorities confirmed that the victim’s remains were discovered at 8.20am and subsequently transported by Fire and Rescue Department personnel via boat to the PKTK jetty. The body was then handed over to the police for further investigation and formal procedures.
The operation, which entered its second day, was led by the appointed commander and terminated immediately after the recovery. Officials reported that the mission proceeded smoothly without any complications or additional incidents.
The Kapit Search and Rescue team had been mobilised following reports of a drowning near the Sri Balleh area. Such operations typically involve coordination between the Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force, and local police, ensuring that resources are deployed efficiently to cover riverbanks and nearby settlements.
Drowning cases remain a concern in Kapit and other riverine communities across Sarawak, where strong currents and unpredictable weather can pose risks to residents.
