Kapit Grass Fire at Bukit Dato Chua Extinguished by Firefighters

KAPIT – Firefighters from the Kapit Fire and Rescue Station responded to a grass fire at Bukit Dato Chua, Jalan Airport, on Friday afternoon after an open burning activity spread into a nearby hill area.

The incident was reported to the Kapit Fire and Rescue Station at 2.09pm on 21 August 2026. Firefighters were dispatched to the location to assess the situation and prevent the flames from spreading further.

Upon arrival, the team found a grass fire burning on the hillside near the house of the person who made the report. The affected area was estimated at 0.404 hectares.

According to the incident report, the fire was linked to an open burning activity that had reportedly become difficult for the caller’s brother-in-law to control. The flames subsequently spread into the surrounding grass and vegetation on the hill.

Firefighters conducted an initial assessment of the scene before beginning immediate extinguishing operations. The response team deployed one first aid stream and one 800-foot stream to tackle the fire.

A control nozzle was also used during the operation, while a mechanical pump supported the firefighting effort. Water needed for the operation was obtained from a nearby fire hydrant.

The firefighting team worked to suppress the flames and prevent the fire from continuing to spread across the hillside. Particular attention was given to ensuring that the affected vegetation was fully extinguished before the operation was concluded.

After confirming that the fire had been completely put out, firefighters carried out a final assessment of the area. No further firefighting action was required at the scene.

All personnel subsequently returned to the Kapit Fire and Rescue Station after the location was assessed and the situation brought under control.

The incident involved an estimated 0.404 hectares of grass and hillside vegetation. The report identified open burning as the activity associated with the fire, with the flames becoming difficult to control before emergency crews arrived.

The response demonstrates the role of firefighters in containing vegetation fires and preventing them from spreading to surrounding areas. Access to a fire hydrant also provided the water supply required to carry out the extinguishing operation.

The Kapit team completed the response after ensuring there were no remaining signs of fire at the location.
