Kapit Scout Branch Marks 47 Years with Charity Dinner

KAPIT – The Scouts Association of Malaysia Kapit Branch commemorated its 47th anniversary with a charity dinner under the theme “Together We Create A Better Tomorrow”. The event, hosted on Saturday at the Kapit Civic Hall, also functioned as a fundraiser to support youth development and welfare initiatives in the district.

The evening was officiated by Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Bumiputera Law & Custom), representing the Minister of Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

In his address, Datuk Jefferson disclosed that the Minister had pledged RM10,000 to endorse the organisation’s work. He also announced his personal contribution of RM10,000, and noted a RM5,000 donation from Baleh State Assemblyman Nicholas Kudi Jantai.

The dinner featured performances by local artists, a lucky draw and contributions from individuals and corporations committed to community development.

The Kapit Branch of the Scouts Association, part of the national youth-organisation framework, used the occasion not only to celebrate its history but also to renew focus on its mission of empowering young people in the Kapit Division of Sarawak.

Scouting in Sarawak forms part of a broader national movement established by law via the Scouts Association of Malaysia (Incorporation) Act 1968, which aims to develop leadership, citizenship and service values among youth.

The Kapit Division itself, comprising the Kapit District along with Song, Belaga and Bukit Mabong, is known for its rich mix of ethnic communities and its large forest-based land area.

By holding a themed fundraising dinner, the Kapit Branch is aligning its anniversary celebration with practical goals: raising funds for youth and welfare programmes, acknowledging volunteers and members, and engaging the community at large in its future direction.

The donations announced demonstrate both official support and private philanthropy, underscoring the value placed on scouting as part of social development in the region.

Looking ahead, the association plans to deploy the funds raised towards enhancing its infrastructure, expanding programme reach, and strengthening partnerships with corporate and governmental stakeholders.

The event also serves as a reminder of the importance of continued community involvement and investment in youth-focused initiatives in Sarawak’s more remote divisions.
