SONG – A total of RM102,500 in Rural Minor Project (MRP) grants has been distributed to 11 recipients in Katibas, reinforcing ongoing efforts to strengthen community development and improve local facilities.
The allocation was handed over by Katibas State Assemblyman (ADUN) Lidam Assan at his service centre on Thursday.
The recipients included several Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) along with local associations actively involved in community programmes.
The grants are intended to support a wide range of initiatives, from enhancing basic infrastructure to facilitating social and cultural activities.
According to Lidam, such allocations are part of continuous efforts to ensure that rural communities benefit from improved facilities and stronger support systems.
He emphasised that the funding reflects the government’s commitment to uplifting rural areas, enabling residents to enjoy better amenities while fostering unity through community-driven projects.
The grants also aim to ensure smoother implementation of social development programmes across Katibas.
Community leaders welcomed the assistance, noting that the funds would help sustain grassroots activities and provide resources for upgrading facilities that directly benefit residents.
The support is expected to improve the efficiency of local organisations in carrying out their responsibilities, particularly in maintaining village infrastructure and organising community events.
Observers highlight that MRP grants have long played a crucial role in Sarawak’s rural development agenda, offering targeted support to small-scale projects that make a tangible difference in everyday life.
By empowering local committees and associations, the initiative helps bridge gaps in resources while encouraging active participation from residents.
The latest disbursement in Katibas adds to a series of similar allocations across Sarawak, reflecting a broader strategy to strengthen rural communities and ensure equitable development.
With continued support, local organisations are expected to expand their programmes and deliver greater benefits to the people of Katibas.
