SARIKEI – The Sarawak State Level Earth Friends Program: Planet Rakan Muda Project 2026 convened a planning meeting at the Sarikei Innovation Centre (SIC) to finalise preparations for its upcoming environmental awareness initiative.
The meeting was chaired by En Mohd Johari Abdullah, Sarikei Division Youth and Sports Officer, and attended by committee members from the Sarawak State Youth and Sports Department (JBSN).
Discussions centred on the programme’s schedule, location, and activity content, as well as the division of responsibilities among organisers.
Activities planned for the event include gotong-royong community cleanups, tree planting, environmental awareness exhibitions, and an Eco Adventure segment designed to engage young participants in outdoor learning. These activities aim to instil a sense of responsibility among youth towards environmental sustainability.
The programme is scheduled to take place on 25 April 2026 at the Traffic Park, Sarikei District Council, Kampung Seberang Sarikei.
According to the chairman, the initiative seeks to raise awareness among young people about the importance of protecting the environment while fostering a proactive attitude towards safeguarding the planet for future generations.
Committee members unanimously agreed to work together to ensure the smooth and effective implementation of the programme.
Organisers emphasised that collaboration between youth, local authorities, and community stakeholders is key to achieving long-term impact.
The Earth Friends initiative forms part of the broader Rakan Muda movement, which encourages youth participation in social, cultural, and environmental activities.
By focusing on sustainability, the project aligns with Sarawak’s commitment to nurturing responsible citizens who contribute positively to society.
Environmental experts have long stressed the importance of youth involvement in conservation efforts, noting that early engagement helps build lifelong habits of care and stewardship.
Programmes such as Earth Friends provide practical opportunities for young people to learn, act, and lead in protecting natural resources.
The upcoming event in Sarikei is expected to draw participation from local schools, youth organisations, and community groups.
Organisers hope that the programme will inspire greater awareness and encourage ongoing initiatives across Sarawak to protect the environment.
