KUCHING – Preparations for the Kenyalang Chinese New Year Sale 2026 are underway, with safety and cleanliness highlighted as top priorities during a briefing for stallholders.
The session, chaired by Councillor Albert Tay on behalf of YBhg. Dato Wee Hong Seng, Mayor of Kuching South, gathered 288 stallholders to ensure they are ready for the festive sale.
Scheduled from 2 to 16 February, the event continues a tradition spanning over 30 years and remains one of Kuching’s most anticipated celebrations.
Organisers stressed the importance of maintaining a safe and clean environment for both stallholders and visitors.
Food vendors were reminded to uphold strict hygiene standards and personal cleanliness, while non-food stallholders were asked to keep their items neatly arranged and eliminate potential hazards.
Proper waste management was also emphasised, with stallholders encouraged to provide sufficient rubbish bins and dispose of waste regularly to keep the sale area tidy.
Councillor Tay noted that the Kenyalang Chinese New Year Sale is more than a commercial event; it is a cultural celebration that embodies community spirit, bringing families together for the festive season. He added that the success of the event relies on the cooperation and responsibility of every stallholder.
The briefing reaffirmed MBKS’s commitment to ensuring the event runs safely and smoothly. By working closely with stallholders, the council aims to deliver a joyful and successful celebration for the community.
With thousands expected to attend, the Kenyalang Chinese New Year Sale 2026 promises to be a vibrant showcase of tradition, commerce, and community spirit in Kuching.
