Quick-Thinking Sarikei Homeowner Stops Kitchen Fire Spread

SARIKEI, 20 May 2025 – A potentially dangerous kitchen fire was swiftly stopped by the quick action of a homeowner at Lorong 4, Jalan Sakam, early this morning.

According to Sarikei Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief, Arrahman Chik, the fire started from cooking ingredients left in a pot on the stove but did not spread further thanks to the homeowner’s fast response.

“We received an emergency call from the homeowner around 8.17am,” he said.

Following the call, the station quickly dispatched a team led by Senior Fire Officer (PBK) I, Unjah Janggau, along with nine firefighters, to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the fire was found to involve only the pot and its contents. The homeowner had already managed to put out the fire before our team arrived,” Arrahman explained.

He added that no extinguishing operations were needed at the scene. Instead, the fire crew only conducted monitoring work to ensure the area was completely safe and no hidden fire sources remained.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of staying alert while cooking and reacting quickly during emergencies. The homeowner’s awareness and calm response likely prevented a small kitchen fire from turning into a house blaze.

No injuries were reported, and the house did not suffer any structural damage.

Authorities continue to advise the public to never leave cooking unattended and to install smoke detectors in the kitchen area for early warning.
