MBKS Steps In After Heavy Rain Causes Roof Leak at Klinik Kesihatan Tanah Puteh

KUCHING : A sudden heavy downpour yesterday evening led to a roof leakage incident at Klinik Kesihatan (KK) Tanah Puteh, situated along Jalan Pending, here. Despite the clinic being under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health (MOH), the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) wasted no time in stepping up to assist in addressing the issue.

The incident, which resulted in water seeping through the clinic’s ceiling, posed potential disruptions to its daily medical services. However, swift response by MBKS helped ease the situation.

Early this morning, MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, together with several MBKS councillors and staff, visited the clinic to assess the extent of the damage and extend support to the medical team on site.

In a show of inter-agency cooperation, MBKS immediately activated assistance through one of its contractors, who was directed to clear debris and stagnant water from the roof tiles. This urgent work was carried out under MBKS’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative as a temporary measure to mitigate further leakage and prevent additional damage.

According to MBKS, the action reflects its continued commitment to ensuring public safety and health service continuity, especially during unexpected weather-related disruptions.

“The welfare of the public always comes first. Even though this facility is not under our direct control, we are always ready to help when the community is affected,” said Dato Wee.

The Council also reiterated its readiness to collaborate with relevant government agencies to ensure that such problems are resolved quickly, and the services to the public remain uninterrupted.

This incident highlights the importance of proactive governance and shared responsibility in dealing with urban challenges brought on by unpredictable weather conditions.
