Allowance Boost Reinforces KMKK Role in Safeguarding Community Welfare

MUKAH – Community and Tribal Leaders (KMKK) across Sarawak are set to benefit from an additional allowance introduced by the state government, recognising their vital role in safeguarding welfare and strengthening grassroots administration.

Mukah District Officer Peleadzman Ahip explained that the allowance will involve approximately 7,000 KMKK throughout Sarawak. He noted that the incentive is expected to encourage leaders to take on a more active role in delivering government policies, maintaining harmony within villages, and ensuring the well-being of residents.

“It is expected to provide great benefits to KMKK and it is hoped that it will inject new enthusiasm so that they continue to play a more active role. This is especially in delivering government policies, maintaining village harmony and ensuring that the well-being of the community is always guaranteed,” he said during the Mukah District KMKK Dinner and KMKK N.4 Pantai Damai Delegation at Kingwood Hotel on Sunday.

Peleadzman emphasised that KMKK act as a crucial link between the government and the people, ensuring that information on development policies, welfare initiatives, and progress reaches communities effectively. He added that the recognition is appropriate given the significant trust placed in KMKK to ensure smooth administration at the grassroots level.

Meanwhile, Temenggong of Mukah Division, Hendi Suhai, highlighted that programmes such as the KMKK delegation strengthen cooperation among leaders. He stressed that such initiatives should continue, not only to maintain collaboration but also to showcase Mukah’s cultural heritage to visiting groups.

During the visit, around 40 KMKK representatives from N.4 Pantai Damai explored several cultural and heritage sites, including the Melanau Oya Heritage Gallery, Jerunei Puteri, Sapan Puloh, and sago processing activities in Village Tellian. Hendi expressed hope that the experience would leave a lasting impression on the participants.

The event was also attended by Kuching District Office Assistant Administrative Officer Fiqrirullah Afendi Yasin Afendi, Mukah District Pemanca Mohamad @ Mohd Jali Kawi, KMKK N.4 Pantai Damai Visit Chairman Penghulu Sidek Sitam, and KK Programme Coordinator Zaini Tanggek.

Observers note that the allowance initiative reflects Sarawak’s broader commitment to empowering grassroots leadership, ensuring that KMKK remain motivated to uphold community welfare while bridging the gap between policy and practice.
