DARO – The roles of Community and Tribal Heads (KMKK) and Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) are vital in linking government policies with grassroots communities, particularly in delivering information, coordinating development and addressing welfare issues at village and longhouse levels.
Daro State Assemblyman Dr Safiee Ahmad emphasised that these responsibilities must be strengthened through mastery of technology and digital skills to meet current demands.
“The ability to use technology is crucial, especially in preparing reports, managing data and delivering information to authorities more efficiently. Mastery of technology not only increases administrative efficiency, but also ensures documentation and reporting are carried out systematically, transparently and effectively at the grassroots level,” he said.
Dr Safiee made the remarks during the Workshop on Strengthening Leadership of KMKK and JKKK Secretaries for Daro and Matu Districts, held at the Daro Community Hall on Friday.
He added that community leaders must continuously improve their knowledge and skills in leadership and administration to manage community-related matters more professionally.
The annual programme, he explained, aims to empower grassroots leadership to be more responsive and aligned with the Sarawak Government’s development aspirations, which emphasise efficient and inclusive governance.
Dr Safiee noted that such workshops should be continued as they provide exposure to leadership and administration while strengthening KMKK and JKKK’s understanding of state policies and direction.
He highlighted that similar programmes had previously been organised in Sibu and Meradong Districts, with the latest initiative in Daro and Matu complementing ongoing efforts to enhance community leadership across the constituency.
At the same event, Dr Safiee presented a RM20,000 contribution to the Daro District Festival Committee to support community and cultural activities.
Also present were Daro District Officer Zul Usup and Mukah Division Resident representative Siti Hazerah Bolhi, underscoring the collaborative effort between local authorities and community leaders in strengthening governance at the grassroots level.
