KMKK Recognised as Pillars of Rural Policy and Development in Opar

KMKK Recognised as Pillars of Rural Policy and Development in Opar

KUCHING – Community and Tribal Leaders (KMKK) must continue serving as strategic drivers of government policy and essential pillars in executing development at the grassroots level, said Opar State Assemblyman (ADUN) Billy Sujang.

He highlighted that the KMKK are not only informers of government policies, but also act as a vital communication bridge between the government and the rural communities they serve.

“KMKK is a communication bridge between the government and the people. You are not just community leaders, but the heartbeat of socio-economic development and stability in DUN Opar,” Billy stressed during the Closing Ceremony of the Opar DUN KMKK Seminar 2025 at The Waterfront Hotel on Monday.

Billy emphasised that the KMKK’s close proximity to the people enables them to facilitate state-initiated projects and policies effectively, ensuring they reach their intended beneficiaries.

The seminar served as a platform to strengthen cooperation between KMKK and government agencies, as well as to enhance their capabilities in development planning and implementation.

“This platform reinforces collaboration and deepens the understanding of KMKK’s roles in implementing Sarawak’s rural transformation agenda,” he added.

Billy also noted that ongoing synergy between KMKK and technical departments such as the Public Works Department, Agriculture Department, and Forest Department is key to rural success in the Opar constituency.

He expressed appreciation for the agencies involved in the seminar, including the Lundu District Office, Lundu District Council, Land and Survey Department, and others, for their commitment to strengthening rural leadership.
