KUCHING – Kota Sentosa State Assemblyman, Wilfred Yap Yau Sin, has taken swift action in response to urgent concerns from SK Satria Jaya’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) regarding persistent low water pressure and suspected leakage problems affecting the school’s water supply.
Yap personally arranged and accompanied a team from the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) to conduct a comprehensive on-site inspection and technical assessment at the school premises.
“The purpose of this visit was to identify the root cause of the inconsistent water supply and expedite a proper solution to safeguard the well-being of students, teachers, and staff,” Yap said in a statement.
During the inspection, he met with the school’s headmaster and PTA representatives to gain firsthand insight into the challenges faced by the school community.
Preliminary findings by JKR revealed that a malfunctioning water pump is likely the main cause of the issue. Yap has since requested a full technical report and cost estimate from JKR to initiate the necessary repairs.
Once the report is ready, he plans to submit a funding application under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) to the Sarawak Premier’s Office, ensuring that remedial works can begin without delay.
“This isn’t about empty promises — it’s about real action,” Yap asserted. “Clean and reliable water is a basic necessity, especially in a school setting.”
During the visit, Yap also inspected three water coolers and 300 chairs recently acquired by the school’s PTA using RM10,000 in Minor Rural Project (MRP) funds allocated last month. He praised the PTA’s proactive efforts in improving the learning environment.
JKR will now prepare both short-term and long-term solutions to ensure SK Satria Jaya receives a sustainable and consistent water supply. Yap pledged to monitor the issue closely until it is fully resolved.
