SELANGAU – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Selangau District has confirmed that floodwaters along the Kuala Pelugau coast are receding, though certain roads remain unsafe for travel.
Monitoring was conducted on Monday, 12 January 2026, at 12.04 pm, following heavy rainfall that recently affected the district. Officials reported that water levels on the banks of the Batang Balingian River are showing a downward trend.
Several low-lying roads that were previously submerged, including the route leading to Rumah Lapok, have now cleared and are accessible to all types of vehicles. However, the road to Rumah Gamang remains impassable due to slippery and muddy conditions, posing risks to motorists.
Authorities stressed that residents and longhouses around Kuala Pelugau have not been directly affected by the flooding. The situation is currently under control, with no reports of damage to homes or the need for evacuations.
Flooding in Selangau has been a recurring challenge during the monsoon season, with rivers and coastal areas often experiencing rising waters. Disaster management teams have been actively monitoring vulnerable zones to ensure community safety and provide timely updates.
The Civil Defence Force highlighted that continuous surveillance is essential, particularly in areas prone to flooding. Teams remain on standby to respond to emergencies and will continue to provide the public with the latest information.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and to comply with instructions issued by the authorities. For urgent assistance, the Civil Defence Force has reminded the public to contact its 24-hour emergency hotline at 084-891285.
The Civil Defence Force reaffirmed its guiding principle of “Ready, Fast, With Integrity” as it continues to safeguard communities across Selangau.
