Kuching Police Arrest 37 in Three-Day Anti-Drug Operation

Kuching Police Arrest 37 in Three-Day Anti-Drug Operation

KUCHING: The Royal Malaysian Police in Kuching have recorded a major breakthrough in their ongoing fight against drugs following the arrest of 37 individuals during a three-day special operation carried out from January 25 to January 27, 2026.

The operation, known as Sarawak Contingent Special Clean-Up Operation No. 2/2026, was led by the Kuching District Police Headquarters and focused on curbing drug distribution and abuse activities in and around the Kuching area. The operation formed part of continuous enforcement efforts to ensure public safety and protect the community from the dangers of illegal drugs.

According to a media statement released by Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga anak Chabu, the arrests involved individuals linked to various offences under Malaysian drug-related laws. Two suspects were detained under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the most severe penalties. Another individual was arrested under Section 39A(1) of the same Act, while seven people were held under Section 12(2). One suspect was arrested under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, and 26 individuals were detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug use.

During the operation, police also seized various types of drugs believed to be intended for distribution and consumption. Among the items confiscated were 65.85 grams of methamphetamine and 63 litres of ketum water. The total estimated value of the seized items was RM7,873.

ACP Alexson stated that the success of the operation was the result of thorough intelligence work and strong cooperation from the public. He stressed that the police will not compromise with any party involved in drug possession, distribution, or activities that protect drug networks. Such offences, he said, are serious crimes under Malaysian law and will be dealt with firmly.

He added that the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department remains fully committed to combating drug-related crimes to safeguard both present and future generations. Drugs, he reminded, remain the nation’s number one enemy.

Members of the public with information related to drug activities are urged to contact the JSJN Hotline at 012-208 7222 or the JSJN IPK Sarawak Hotline at 017-592 9211. The police assured that all information will be treated confidentially.

The statement was officially released on January 28, 2026, reaffirming the police’s resolve to maintain law and order across Sarawak.
