Two Men Arrested in Kuching After High-Speed Chase Over Suspected Theft Tools

Two Men Arrested in Kuching After High-Speed Chase Over Suspected Theft Tools

KUCHING — Two men were arrested early today by the Counter Aggressive Team (CAT) of the Kuching district police, following a chase that ended near Jalan Datuk Sri Tawi Sli. The arrest came after officers spotted a vehicle behaving suspiciously and pursued the occupants until they were forced to stop.

The suspects, aged 40 and 28, were driving a Viva-type car when police attempted to stop them. Instead of cooperating, they fled, triggering a chase that lasted until the vehicle reached the roadside near Jalan Datuk Sri Tawi Sli. Police managed to intercept and detain both men shortly after.

During the arrest, officers searched the suspects but found no illegal items on their persons. However, a more detailed inspection of the vehicle revealed a set of equipment believed to be used for housebreaking and vehicle theft. When questioned, both suspects were unable to provide any valid explanation for the tools found in the car.

In addition, urine screening tests conducted on the suspects returned positive results for drug use. This raised further concern among the police, as the combination of illegal substances and suspected theft equipment posed a serious threat to public safety.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 6 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958 (ABKLSB 1958). This law covers the possession of dangerous weapons in public places without a valid reason or official permission.

Police have not yet disclosed whether the suspects are linked to any recent break-ins or vehicle thefts in the area. Investigators are expected to review the evidence and carry out further checks to determine whether the men have been involved in other criminal activities.

As the investigation continues, the public is reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to the nearest police station.
