KUCHING – The Kuching District Police Headquarters intensified road safety enforcement today with a commercial vehicle operation carried out along Jalan Setia Raja, reflecting ongoing efforts to keep local roads safe for all users.
The operation, conducted by the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Division of Kuching IPD, took place from 10.00 am to 11.30 am. It focused on monitoring commercial vehicles, which play a vital role in daily transport and logistics but also pose serious risks if safety rules are ignored.
During the enforcement exercise, a total of 52 vehicles were stopped and inspected. Police officers also checked 68 individuals, including drivers and assistants. As a result of the inspections, seven summonses were issued for various offences. These mainly involved vehicle safety issues and non-compliance with licence requirements.
According to the police, such offences may appear minor to some drivers, but they can lead to serious accidents if left unchecked. Faulty vehicle conditions, expired or invalid licences, and unauthorised vehicle modifications are among the common factors that contribute to road crashes involving commercial vehicles.
Weather conditions were reported to be good throughout the operation, allowing officers to carry out inspections smoothly and without disruption. This also helped ensure that traffic flow in the area remained under control while enforcement was ongoing.
The police stressed that the main aim of the operation was not merely to issue summonses, but to remind road users of their responsibility to obey traffic laws. Commercial vehicle drivers were advised to always ensure their vehicles are in safe and proper condition before heading out on the road. They were also reminded to hold a valid GDL or vocational licence and to avoid making any vehicle modifications without approval from the relevant authorities.
Police added that safety must always come first, not only for drivers themselves but also for their cargo and other road users, including pedestrians and motorcyclists. A single act of negligence can result in loss of life and property.
Kuching police confirmed that similar operations will continue from time to time. These efforts are part of a broader commitment to protect the safety and well-being of all road users and to reduce accidents involving heavy and commercial vehicles across the district.
