KUCHING – The Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD Kuching) carried out a large-scale integrated crime prevention operation between 30 April and 1 May 2026, aimed at strengthening public safety and curbing criminal activity across the city.
The initiative ran from 10 pm to 2 am and involved a coordinated team of 15 senior officers and 31 junior officers drawn from multiple divisions and police stations under IPD Kuching’s administration.
The operation concentrated on areas under the jurisdiction of Sekama and Tabuan Jaya Police Stations, which have been identified as crime-prone zones.
Patrols were conducted to deter offences such as vehicle theft, housebreaking, and robbery, while also targeting street-level criminal activities.
Police presence was deliberately heightened in these neighbourhoods to reassure residents and discourage unlawful behaviour.
Authorities outlined several objectives for the operation. These included reducing crime rates to the lowest possible level, increasing visibility of law enforcement in hotspot areas, conducting snap checks on suspicious individuals and vehicles, enforcing traffic laws with particular attention to motorcyclists, and apprehending individuals listed as wanted persons.
During the two-night exercise, officers inspected 349 individuals and checked 295 vehicles. A total of 117 summonses were issued under PDRM (K) 257, reflecting a strong emphasis on traffic enforcement.
The operation also extended to nightlife establishments, with the BSJND team inspecting a nightclub within the Tabuan Jaya Police Station’s administrative area.
Police officials stressed that the integrated approach was designed not only to address immediate threats but also to build long-term confidence in community safety.
By combining patrols, targeted enforcement, and monitoring of crime hotspots, the operation sought to disrupt gang-related activities and strengthen preventive measures against recurring offences.
The initiative forms part of a broader strategy by IPD Kuching to reinforce law and order through proactive policing.
Similar operations have been conducted in recent years across Sarawak, reflecting the state’s commitment to safeguarding urban centres and ensuring compliance with both criminal and traffic regulations.
Community leaders have welcomed the move, noting that visible police patrols contribute to a stronger sense of security among residents.
The operation underscores the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and the public in maintaining peace and stability in Kuching.
With continued enforcement and vigilance, authorities hope to sustain momentum in reducing crime rates and enhancing the quality of life for the city’s population.
The Integrated Crime Prevention Operation demonstrates the police force’s determination to act decisively against offenders while promoting responsible behaviour among motorists and residents alike.
