Kuching Police Raid Padungan Entertainment Centre, Five Test Drug-Positive

Kuching Police Raid Padungan Entertainment Centre, Five Test Drug-Positive

KUCHING — Police have tightened their grip on drug abuse in the city after a targeted operation at an entertainment centre in Padungan led to the arrest of five individuals who tested positive for drugs.

The operation was carried out by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Kuching District Police Headquarters. Officers inspected one entertainment outlet during the raid, which took place as part of an ongoing effort to curb illegal drug activities in nightlife areas. A total of 21 patrons, made up of both men and women, were screened during the inspection.

According to police, the initial screening tests conducted at the scene revealed that five individuals were positive for drugs. They were immediately detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, an offence related to self-administration of dangerous drugs. Their cases will be investigated further as the authorities work to establish the full extent of their involvement in drug abuse activities.

Police stressed that operations like this are necessary to keep entertainment premises free from drug-related behaviour, which poses risks not only to users but also to the public. The enforcement team stated that they will continue to intensify monitoring and carry out periodic operations to ensure such premises do not become breeding grounds for illegal drug activities.

Authorities also noted that the purpose of this operation is to safeguard public safety and maintain the well-being of the local community. Continuous enforcement, they said, remains a crucial step in ensuring that Kuching remains safe for both residents and visitors who frequent entertainment areas.

The police urged entertainment operators to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies and reminded the public that drug offences are treated seriously under Malaysian law. They also encouraged community members to report any suspicious activities linked to drug abuse or distribution.

With ongoing monitoring and decisive enforcement, the authorities believe that Kuching can continue to maintain order and protect the community from the harmful effects of drug abuse.
