Massive Factory Fire at Jalan Indah Batu 9: Firefighters Still Battling Flames

KUCHING, Oct 30: A large-scale fire broke out at a factory along Jalan Indah, Batu 9, Kuching late Wednesday night, with firefighting teams still working tirelessly to bring the blaze under control as of Thursday morning.

According to a spokesperson from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 11:10 pm on Wednesday. Upon arrival, firefighters found the factory engulfed in flames, prompting an immediate full-force response involving multiple stations.

“The fire is still being extinguished as of 8 am Thursday. Our team is carrying out direct attack operations to suppress the fire and prevent further spread,” the spokesperson said.

As of the latest update, 20% of the fire has been successfully extinguished, but thick smoke and structural debris continue to make the operation difficult. Firefighters are now working to obtain excavator assistance to help with excavation and cooling operations, ensuring all hidden embers are fully put out.

The firefighting operation involves combined teams from Kota Samarahan Fire & Rescue Station (BBP), Kota Sentosa Fire Station, Tabuan Jaya Fire Station, and Siburan Fire Station.

No casualties have been reported so far, and investigations are expected to begin once the fire is completely extinguished. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire or assess the total damage to the property.

Residents living nearby reported seeing thick black smoke rising from the site late Wednesday night, with some sharing photos and videos on social media showing the intensity of the blaze.

Firefighters are urging the public to stay away from the area to allow smooth access for emergency vehicles and to avoid exposure to the smoke.

Bomba continues to monitor the situation closely and expects full containment once the excavation work is completed.
