Kuching Immigration Raids Net 71 Illegal Immigrants in City Sweep

Kuching – In a major crackdown on illegal immigration, the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division successfully arrested 71 undocumented migrants during a series of coordinated raids across the city.

The operation, which commenced in the early hours of 9 December 2025, covered multiple areas including Muara Tuang, Matang Jaya, Kota Sentosa, and Taman Berjaya, Batu 4. It concluded the following day at around 6.00 am. A total of 31 enforcement officers were deployed to carry out thorough inspections at both residential and business premises.

According to the Enforcement Division, the arrests were made under various provisions of the Immigration Act 1959/63. “This operation demonstrates our continued commitment to enforcing immigration laws and curbing unlawful activities involving foreign nationals,” said a spokesperson for the division. The sweep was part of an ongoing effort to identify and remove individuals residing in Malaysia without valid documentation.

The division also stressed the importance of compliance among employers and premises owners, urging them to adhere strictly to legal procedures when hiring foreign workers. The public is likewise encouraged to report any information regarding illegal immigrants, which can aid authorities in maintaining law and order.

This successful operation highlights the authorities’ proactive approach in tackling illegal immigration and protecting national security. Enforcement officers have pledged to intensify future operations to ensure that Kuching remains a safe and law-abiding city.

The 71 arrests mark one of the largest crackdowns in recent months in Kuching, reflecting the Immigration Enforcement Division’s determination to uphold the law. With continued vigilance and public cooperation, authorities hope to significantly reduce the presence of illegal immigrants across the state.
