KUCHING – The Kuching International Cat Festival (KICF) 2025 made its much-anticipated return with a soft launching ceremony held today at the Kuching Waterfront. The festival, taking place from 26 to 28 September, was officiated by Yang Berbahagia Dato Haji Hilmy bin Haji Othman, Mayor of Kuching North.

This year’s edition promises to be larger and more vibrant, bringing together cat lovers from Malaysia and abroad. The festival aims to strengthen Kuching’s reputation as the “City of Cats” while also raising awareness about animal care and welfare.

Among the main highlights is the prestigious World Cat Show, showcasing more than 246 cats of different breeds from countries including Thailand, the Philippines, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

In addition, visitors will be entertained with a wide variety of activities such as My Cat Expo, Cat Grooming Demonstrations, Cat Dance Competitions, Cat Fashion Shows, and Buskers Performances. These family-friendly programmes are expected to attract thousands of locals and tourists throughout the three-day event.

The most anticipated highlight of the festival is the Cat Parade, scheduled for 27 September at 7.00 pm. A total of 69 cats will take part, parading in full spirit, much to the delight of the crowd.

Speaking at the launch, DBKU encouraged residents and tourists alike to take part in the festival, which celebrates Kuching’s unique identity and love for cats.

Also present at the ceremony were Ms Anneliese Hackmann, President of the World Cat Federation; Mr Sufian bin Mohat, Founder of Putra Cat Boarding Service; international World Cat Show judges; as well as DBKU Deputy Directors and Division Heads.
