Over 14,000 Runners Take Part in Kuching Marathon X 2025

KUCHING – More than 14,000 runners from across Malaysia and abroad have registered for the Kuching Marathon X 2025, making it the largest running event in Sarawak. The marathon, which marks its 10th anniversary this year, continues to grow as a major attraction for both professional athletes and casual runners.

Sarawak Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said participants could collect their race packs and participation numbers until this Saturday.

“I don’t know if registration is still open, but today (Wednesday) participants can collect their numbers and race packs until Saturday. I also hope the Kuching Marathon continues to grow bigger year after year. Maybe one day the number of participants can reach 20,000 or even 30,000,” he told reporters after visiting the race pack collection centre.

Dato Sri Abdul Karim, who also serves as the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, expressed his admiration for the well-organised preparations. He noted the efficiency of the race pack distribution and praised the management team for their discipline and commitment.

“Not only before the race but also during previous marathons, we can see how well the event is managed. This shows a very high level of discipline. We hope this year’s marathon will also run smoothly,” he added.

The Kuching Marathon has become a key sports and tourism event for Sarawak, drawing participants of various levels, from elite international runners to local fitness enthusiasts. Apart from promoting a healthy lifestyle, the event also supports Sarawak’s vision of positioning Kuching as a vibrant sports and cultural hub.

With thousands expected to fill the streets of Kuching this weekend, the marathon is set to bring excitement, economic benefits, and international exposure to the city. — UKAS EDITION
