Kuching North Hosts Kota Tinggi Delegation to Strengthen Urban Ties

KUCHING – The Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) welcomed a delegation from the Kota Tinggi District Council (MDKT), Johor, in a courtesy visit aimed at fostering closer cooperation between the two local authorities.

The delegation, led by Tuan Haji Khairul Hafiz bin Mohamad @ Mazlan, President of MDKT, was received by His Excellency Dato Hilmy bin Haji Othman, Mayor of Kuching North.

The meeting took place at the Kuching North City Hall before moving to the DBKU Auditorium for a detailed briefing.

During the session, DBKU officials shared insights into their ongoing initiatives to transform Kuching into a smart and low-carbon city.

The presentation highlighted strategies such as sustainable waste management, active transport systems including bicycle lanes and river taxis, and plans for a bus rapid transit network.

These efforts form part of the broader Kuching Smart City Master Plan, which is designed to balance urban growth with environmental sustainability.

The Kota Tinggi delegation expressed interest in learning from Kuching’s experience, particularly in areas of governance and community-focused development.

The district itself is undergoing long-term planning under the Kota Tinggi Local Plan 2030, which outlines strategies for land use, infrastructure, and public services to meet future demands.

Also present at the briefing were Mr. Ramzi Abdillah, Director of DBKU, alongside Deputy Directors and senior officers.

Their participation underscored the importance of institutional collaboration in shaping policies that improve urban living standards.

The visit was described as a strategic platform for exchanging views and sharing best practices. Both councils emphasised the value of strengthening bilateral relations to enhance service delivery and community well-being.

Kuching’s ambition to become a low-carbon hub has gained momentum in recent years, with the Sarawak government extending the Smart City Master Plan to other urban centres.

The initiative seeks to integrate modern infrastructure with sustainable practices, ensuring cities remain liveable while reducing environmental impact.

The courtesy call concluded with hopes that such cooperation will continue, paving the way for stronger ties between Kuching and Kota Tinggi.

By learning from each other’s experiences, both councils aim to improve governance, raise service quality, and support the aspirations of their respective communities.
