KUCHING – The Kuching District Police conducted a late-night traffic enforcement operation, Op Samseng Jalanan, over the night of 14 to 15 February 2026 to tackle reckless riding and ensure road safety in the city.
The operation, coordinated by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of Kuching IPD, began at 10 pm and continued until 4 am. Police officers focused their efforts around key areas, including Jalan Astana, Jalan Tun Abd Rahman Yakub, Jalan Tun Salahudin, and MASJA. A senior officer led the operation, supported by nine junior officers, ensuring thorough monitoring of both vehicles and riders.
During the operation, a total of 15 vehicles were inspected, and 18 individuals underwent checks. Officers issued six summonses for traffic violations and seized two motorcycles. Notably, two teenage boys, both around 16 years old, were arrested for performing dangerous stunts commonly known as ‘wheelies’. Such stunts pose significant risks not only to the riders themselves but also to other road users.
Police emphasized that the operation is part of an ongoing effort to combat street thuggery and promote responsible riding behaviour. Authorities reiterated that compliance with traffic rules is crucial, particularly for motorcyclists who are more vulnerable on the road. “Our aim is to protect the community by ensuring that all road users follow the law,” said the senior officer in charge of the operation.
The operation also served as a warning to youth engaging in dangerous riding and highlighted the commitment of Kuching police to maintain safety and order on city roads. With stricter enforcement and continued public awareness, authorities hope to curb reckless behaviour and foster safer roads for everyone.
