KUCHING — The Sarawak police continued their firm stand against drug abuse with a major enforcement operation at entertainment premises in the Jalan Canna area here, leading to the arrest of 20 individuals who tested positive for drugs.
The operation was carried out by a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department of the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters, together with officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Kuching District Police Headquarters. The raid was part of ongoing efforts to curb drug-related activities, especially at entertainment outlets frequented by the public.
During the first operation, police inspected an entertainment premise and screened 20 individuals, consisting of both men and women. Initial urine tests conducted on visitors revealed that 12 individuals tested positive for drugs. All 12 were arrested on the spot and detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for further investigation.
At the same time, another coordinated operation was conducted nearby by officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division, the Criminal Investigation Division, and the Tabuan Jaya Police Station under the Kuching District Police Headquarters. This second raid also targeted an entertainment premise in the Jalan Canna area.
In this operation, a total of 43 individuals were examined. Following initial screening tests, eight people were found to be positive for drug use. They were also detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Police said all suspects would be dealt with according to the law, while further investigations are being carried out to determine the source of the drugs and whether any other offences were committed by the premises involved.
According to the police, such operations will continue to be conducted from time to time as part of continuous monitoring and enforcement actions. Entertainment premises remain under close watch, especially those suspected of being linked to drug abuse activities.
The police stressed that the main objective of these operations is to ensure public safety and protect the well-being of the community. By maintaining a strong enforcement presence, authorities hope to send a clear message that drug abuse will not be tolerated in Sarawak.
Members of the public are also encouraged to cooperate with the police by providing information on suspected drug activities. The police reaffirmed their commitment to keeping Kuching safe and maintaining law and order for the benefit of all residents.
