Kuching Police Nab Couple in Motorcycle Theft Case

Kuching Police Nab Couple in Motorcycle Theft Case

KUCHING, SARAWAK – The Kuching District Police successfully arrested a local man and woman in connection with a motorcycle theft case during a special operation, authorities confirmed on 28 February 2026. The arrests were made at a residence on Jalan Green, Kuching, highlighting the police’s continued efforts to curb crime in the city.

According to ACP Alexson Naga Anak Chabu, Kuching District Police Chief, the suspects, aged 32 and 33, were detained after an investigation revealed their involvement in the theft of a blue Yamaha Avantis motorcycle. The vehicle was discovered to be fitted with a false registration number. Initial investigations suggest the man was directly involved in the theft, while the woman, identified as his acquaintance, was also taken into custody.

Police records show that both suspects have multiple past criminal convictions. In addition, urine tests conducted on the pair returned positive results for controlled substances, adding further legal complications to their case. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which stipulates a prison term ranging from one to seven years, and may also include a monetary fine.

ACP Chabu urged the public to avoid engaging in criminal activities and stressed the importance of community cooperation in crime prevention. Citizens with relevant information are encouraged to contact the Kuching IPD Control Centre at 082-244444.

The arrests underscore the proactive measures taken by the Royal Malaysian Police to ensure the safety of Kuching residents and maintain law and order in the city. Local authorities continue to monitor areas prone to theft and urge residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activity, and support ongoing police operations.

The successful apprehension of the suspects in this case marks a significant step in combating motorcycle theft in Kuching, reinforcing the message that illegal actions will not be tolerated and that the law will pursue offenders rigorously.
