Kuching Polytechnic CSR Enhances Electrical Safety in Lundu Community

LUNDU – A corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative by Kuching Polytechnic has elevated electrical safety awareness and provided practical skills training for residents of Kampung Stenggang.

The two-day programme, “Connecting Communities: Bridging With Skills,” involved 22 students performing free house rewiring for two households and conducting workshops on safe electrical practices.

Opar State Assemblyman Billy Sujang, who officiated the event at SK St Teresa Stenggang Hall, emphasized the critical need for maintaining household wiring to prevent fire hazards, particularly in wooden structures.

“The field-based approach is highly effective as it offers hands-on experience to both students and residents, moving beyond theoretical knowledge,” he noted.

The initiative included practical sessions on installing extension cords and lighting, alongside STEM activities for 20 local schoolchildren to spark interest in technical fields.

The programme aligns with broader efforts to integrate technical education with community service, addressing both safety risks and educational gaps in rural areas.

Additionally, Sujang inspected the Ruh Puluoh–Sungai Situ Agricultural Road project, aimed at improving infrastructure and access for local farmers.
