KUCHING, 3 November 2025 (Monday) — The future of parking in Kuching took another step forward today as local authorities conducted a site visit to the upcoming Kuching Smart Parking System (Pay & Go) at Jalan Song Thian Cheok.
The visit, attended by key leaders from the Sarawak State Government, aimed to introduce and provide insights into the new system that will soon be implemented under the administrative areas of Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) and Kuching South City Council (MBKS).
The Pay & Go smart parking system represents a major leap in digital transformation for Kuching, marking a shift toward a fully cashless, convenient, and secure parking experience for city residents and visitors.
Among the main features of this modern system are a GPS-based Pay & Go mobile app, handheld devices for enforcement officers, QR-coded parking notices for easier user access, and Vehicle License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras to ensure smoother, more efficient enforcement.
Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian, was present to observe the progress of the project alongside Datuk Haji Abdul Rahman Haji Junaidi, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department of Sarawak; Dato Haji Hilmy Haji Othman, Mayor of DBKU; and Dato Wee Hong Seng, Mayor of MBKS.
Dr. Sim emphasized that the implementation of this system aligns with the Sarawak Government’s Smart City agenda, designed to make Kuching a more sustainable, modern, and liveable city. He said that technology-based services like Pay & Go not only enhance administrative efficiency but also promote environmental sustainability through reduced paper use and traffic congestion.
DBKU and MBKS reaffirmed their joint commitment to improving public service quality through innovative and efficient technological solutions. The councils believe that this initiative will provide a more seamless experience for road users while supporting Kuching’s evolution into a smart, connected, and people-centered city.
