KUCHING – Residents in several areas across Kuching are experiencing an extended interruption of water supply this morning as utility teams run into unexpected technical problems in fixing a burst pipe on April 02, 2026.
Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd has updated the timeline for restoration, which has now been postponed to midnight due to complications at the site on Jalan Belatok.
Repair work on the 400 mm Asbestos Cement (AC) main pipe started at 10:00 am. However, technicians working on site have found the leak is directly beneath the extensive root system of a large tree, so they will now have to dig more carefully and slowly to avoid further damage to the building or any safety hazards.
Recent updates indicate that the restoration time for this repair has been revised to 12:00 midnight instead of the previously stated 7:00 pm.
The affected areas are the vicinity of the SK Tan Sri Datuk Haji Mohamed, Masjid Darul Furqan and Taman Malihah residential neighbourhood. Disruption will also be felt around Kampung Kolong and along the curvature of Lorongs 1 to 13 close to Jalan Belatok.
Residents within these sections have been advised to anticipate either severely low water pressure or no supply whatsoever until the works are completed.
In light of the extension, Sarawak Water then confirmed that it will mobilise water tanker services to affected areas if needed.
Daewang, on its part, has been proactive in alerting road users travelling around Jalan Batu Kawa, Matang to exercise caution and comply with all temporary traffic management and safety signage that would be put up at the repair site.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to you and appreciate your patience and understanding,” the company said in an official notice.

“The department is continuing to work hard to rectify the issue as quickly as possible and return normal service to residents within the impacted areas.”
