Police Arrest Man Who Threatened Inspector with Meat Cutter at Kuching Waterfront

KUCHING — A 36-year-old man was arrested by the police after he allegedly used criminal violence against a police inspector during a crime prevention patrol near Kuching Waterfront last Saturday night, in conjunction with the Sarawak Regatta 2025.

Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, confirmed that the suspect was detained shortly after the incident, which took place while officers were on their regular patrol duty to ensure public safety during the regatta.

According to police reports, the suspect suddenly attacked a senior police officer of the rank of Inspector by pulling out a meat cutter knife and slashing toward the officer. The weapon caused a small tear to the officer’s uniform on his left arm, but fortunately, the victim escaped unharmed.

The suspect, who was later subdued by nearby officers, was found to have two previous criminal records related to criminal offences. However, an initial urine test showed that the suspect was negative for drugs at the time of arrest.

ACP Alexson stated that the case is being investigated under Section 332 of the Penal Code, which carries a punishment of up to three years in prison, a fine, or both for voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant while performing official duties.

He also urged the public to come forward with any information that may assist the ongoing investigation. Members of the public can contact the Kuching IPD Control Centre at 082-244444 or reach out directly to the investigating officer, Insp. Ridzainuddin bin Rosley, at 010-9431449.

ACP Alexson reminded the public that any act of aggression or obstruction against law enforcement officers will not be tolerated and stern action will be taken to protect the safety of officers on duty and the general public.
