Kuching’s Unique ‘Borrow & Return’ Ritual: A Must-See Cultural Event!

Kuching, Sarawak – The vibrant city of Kuching is set to host a special cultural event that promises a blend of tradition, blessings, and exciting performances. From 5th to 8th November 2024, the renowned Hong San Si Temple on Wayang Street will come alive as it welcomes visitors for the captivating “Borrow & Return Money” ritual, also known as 借银还银, alongside a lineup of traditional Chinese festivities.

A Tradition of Blessings and Prosperity

Originating from ancient Chinese practices, the Borrow & Return Money ritual is designed to invoke blessings of wealth and prosperity for those who partake. For a minimum of RM5, visitors can engage in this ritual to symbolically “borrow” prosperity, with the understanding that returning it during the event helps circulate blessings.
