SAMARAHAN – A coordination meeting for the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project was convened at the Muhibbah Room, JKR Samarahan, on 20 April 2026.
The session was chaired by Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development and Kota Samarahan Member of Parliament, Datuk Hajah Rubiah binti Wang.
The meeting brought together representatives from the Samarahan Public Works Department, Sarawak Metro Sdn. Bhd., and members of the State Legislative Assembly for Muara Tuang.
Discussions centred on the progress of the Blue Line Package 1, which is scheduled for completion by the end of this year.
Participants reviewed the current status of construction, identified challenges, and explored measures to improve implementation.
Datuk Hajah Rubiah highlighted the importance of addressing public concerns over traffic congestion in Kota Samarahan, urging Sarawak Metro to manage traffic flow more effectively along major routes impacted by the project.
She also outlined proposals for new alternative roads to ease congestion, particularly linking the Kota Samarahan Administrative Centre to Jalan Meranek.
The plan is seen as crucial in reducing bottlenecks at Bulatan Entingan, a key junction leading to Universiti Teknologi MARA and surrounding residential areas.
Concerns were raised about the anticipated increase in traffic following the opening of SMK Sri Samarahan on Jalan Meranek.
Datuk Hajah Rubiah stressed that mitigation measures must be implemented promptly to prevent further strain on local roads.
She called for close collaboration between the Sarawak Public Works Department and its Samarahan division to examine and realise the proposed road projects.
The aim is to enhance safety and comfort for road users while supporting the smooth rollout of the KUTS initiative.
Acknowledging the efforts of both the Public Works Department and Sarawak Metro, she expressed appreciation for their commitment to ensuring the project’s success and safeguarding the welfare of residents.
The meeting underscored the importance of strategic cooperation among government agencies, contractors, and stakeholders.
By strengthening partnerships, the KUTS project is expected to deliver sustainable infrastructure that benefits the community in the long term.
