KUCHING – The construction of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) continues to make visible progress, with more U-beam structures recently installed at the Kuching International Airport site.
The latest installation connects several piers near the airport entrance, marking another milestone in the development of the elevated Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) guideway.
The U-beams form a crucial part of the elevated structure, which is steadily taking shape as construction advances.
Once completed, the elevated SR06 ART Station will be directly linked to the airport terminal building. This integration is expected to provide seamless connectivity for passengers, making travel in and out of Kuching more convenient.
The station will serve as a gateway for both domestic and international travellers, enhancing accessibility and reducing transit times.
Sarawak Metro, the agency overseeing the KUTS Project, has emphasised that the initiative is designed to modernise Kuching’s public transport system.
The ART network, which will feature hydrogen-powered vehicles, is part of Sarawak’s broader vision to deliver sustainable, safe, and efficient infrastructure.
The installation of U-beams is a critical stage in the construction process, as these structures form the backbone of the elevated guideway.
Engineers and project teams have worked to ensure that the installation is carried out with precision, reflecting the technical demands of a project of this scale.
Community members have noted the rapid pace of development, with the growing presence of elevated structures around the airport serving as a visible reminder of Sarawak’s commitment to modernising its transport system.
The project is expected to ease congestion, improve mobility, and support the state’s long-term economic growth.
The KUTS Project is also seen as a catalyst for urban transformation, with the ART system set to connect key areas across Kuching.
By linking the airport directly to the ART network, Sarawak Metro aims to provide travellers with a reliable and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional transport.
As construction continues, Sarawak Metro has assured the public that safety and compliance remain top priorities.
The agency reiterated its commitment to delivering infrastructure that meets international standards while serving the needs of the local community.
The installation of U-beams at Kuching International Airport represents more than just structural progress; it symbolises the state’s ambition to build a modern, sustainable transport system that will benefit generations to come.
