KUCHING – The Sarawak Land and Survey Department (LANDAS) reaffirmed its dominance on the Sarawak River after Landas Azam Kasihnya Warisan 3 clinched the prestigious Raja Sungai title at the Sarawak Regatta 2025.
Crossing the finish line in 7 minutes 13 seconds, the crew outpaced 13 other challengers to secure the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Cup and a RM30,000 cash prize. The award was presented by Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, who attended the regatta as guest of honour.
The Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) team finished close behind in second place with a time of 7 minutes 17 seconds, while Bedilku Seri Putih (Adidas) secured third in 7 minutes 18 seconds. The narrow margins highlighted the increasingly competitive standard of the annual race, which continues to draw strong participation from across the state.
The event was also graced by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, alongside other dignitaries.
Beyond the Raja Sungai contest, LANDAS further cemented its reputation by winning the Perahu Bidar 30 Men’s Open – Borneo International MTCP Trophy through its Landas 5 team. Landas 1 finished second, while Sinaran EF Adison Sambas took third place.
In the Perahu Kenyalang 10 Men (Office/Agency Staff) category, BDA emerged champion, followed by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Development (MYSED) in second, and the Sarawak Land and Survey Office in third.
The Kenyalang 20 Men’s Open VIP Trophy – Sarawak Premier Trophy saw DPRD Zulkarnain SP/PUSAKA claim first place. The team led by Datuk Len Talip Salleh and Datu Abdullah Julaihi/LANDAS finished second, while Dato Simoi Peri/KELISA secured third.
Spectators lining the Sarawak River cheered loudly as the winning crews arrived, waving flags and chanting team names in celebration. The regatta, a highlight of Sarawak’s cultural calendar, once again showcased the blend of tradition, sporting excellence, and community spirit.
Also, present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, senior ministers, and other state leaders.
The Sarawak Regatta, which dates back to the 19th century, remains one of the most iconic water sports events in the region, symbolising unity and cultural pride while drawing thousands of visitors to Kuching’s waterfront each year.
