Landslides in Bintulu: No Injuries, Authorities Ensure Safety

BINTULU, Feb 3 – Two landslides were reported in Bintulu this afternoon, prompting a swift response from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba). Fortunately, no injuries were recorded, and authorities conducted safety monitoring to prevent further risks.

First Landslide at Belle Hill Housing

The first incident occurred at Belle Hill Housing, Jalan Tun Hussein Onn, and was reported at 12.04pm. Bomba personnel arrived at 12.40pm, approximately 12 kilometers from the station. Upon arrival, they discovered that a canvas had already been placed to reduce soil erosion. After a thorough inspection, officials confirmed no immediate threat remained. The monitoring process was completed, and operations concluded at 12.44pm.

Second Landslide at Taman Happy Garden Phase 2

A second landslide was reported at Taman Happy Garden Phase 2 at the same time, 12.04pm. Bomba reached the site at 12.58pm, located just 7 kilometers from the station. The landslide affected a 15-meter section along the edge of a resident’s property. Fortunately, no further soil movement was detected, and the situation was declared stable. By 1.06pm, safety monitoring was completed without any rescue operations needed.

Authorities Continue Monitoring

While both incidents did not cause injuries or major damage, Bomba urges residents to stay alert, especially during the rainy season. Continuous monitoring and preventive measures, such as proper drainage and slope reinforcements, are essential to avoid future landslides.

Local authorities will keep assessing the affected areas to ensure long-term safety. Residents are encouraged to report any signs of soil movement to the relevant agencies for immediate action.
