Lawas Bridge Project Hits 62.6% Completion, On Track for 2026

LAWAS — The construction of the new Lawas Bridge has achieved 62.6 per cent completion and remains firmly on schedule, with final delivery projected for the fourth quarter of 2026.

The update was confirmed during a site visit on Sunday by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who also chairs the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA).

Once completed, the bridge is expected to become a critical infrastructure link, boosting connectivity within the northern corridor of Sarawak.

The project aims to provide smoother accessibility for residents while also supporting the movement of goods, trade, and cross-border economic activities in Lawas and its surrounding districts.

Datuk Amar Awang Tengah emphasised that the bridge will not only reduce travel constraints but also act as a catalyst for socio-economic growth, improving livelihoods and supporting regional development.

Accompanying the Deputy Premier during the inspection were Datuk Ismawi Ismuni, Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA), and Datu Ubaidillah Abdul Latip, Regional Director of NRDA.

Also, present were senior representatives from the Limbang Resident Office, Lawas District Office, Lawas District Council, Land and Survey Department, and the project’s lead consultant.

The Lawas Bridge forms part of the state’s broader push to enhance infrastructure under the NRDA’s development agenda, which is tasked with driving growth in Sarawak’s northern areas, including Lawas and Limbang.

By ensuring reliable transport links, the project is expected to lay the groundwork for stronger tourism, agriculture, and small business opportunities across the division.
