Ground Wasp Nest Safely Destroyed in Limbang Operation by APM

LIMBANG – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Limbang removed a large ground wasp nest in Kampung Buang Abai on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.

The Alpha Squad, led by Cpl. (PA) Nurul Najanadhirah binti Hadri, responded after residents reported the nest and raised safety concerns. The team used a controlled burning method to destroy the nest while keeping nearby homes and residents safe.

The nest was about the size of a 4×4 vehicle tyre. Ground wasps are known for aggressive behaviour, and nests of this size often contain hundreds of insects. Their stings trigger severe allergic reactions in some people, which raised concern among villagers.

The operation ended without injuries. Residents had worried about children and elderly people living nearby, so the successful removal brought relief to the community.

APM Limbang reminded the public to contact trained responders when dangerous situations arise, including insect infestations. The unit operates a 24-hour hotline at 085-210471, and emergencies are reported through the national MERS line at 999.

Ground wasp nests often appear in rural areas, usually hidden in soil or beneath vegetation. Many remain unnoticed until they grow large. Disturbing such nests leads to aggressive swarms, which creates serious risk for anyone nearby.

The Civil Defence Force continues to support communities across Sarawak. Their work includes disaster response as well as everyday safety threats. The quick action in Limbang shows the value of community reporting and rapid response.

Residents of Kampung Buang Abai said the removal restored peace of mind in the area. APM Limbang reaffirmed its commitment to protect the public and respond quickly when hazards appear.
