Open Burning Sparks Late-Night Fire Scare at Limbang Home

Open Burning Sparks Late-Night Fire Scare at Limbang Home

LIMBANG – A late-night fire believed to have been triggered by open burning came dangerously close to destroying a house at Taman Sungai Kaban, here early this morning.

According to Limbang Zone Seven Fire Chief, Ramlan Marajan, his team from the Limbang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Limbang) was dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving an emergency call at around 12.00 midnight.

“Upon arrival, our team discovered that the fire had affected the kitchen wall of a vacant house. Fortunately, the flames were quickly brought under control before they could spread further,” he said in a statement issued today.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire likely originated from open burning activities conducted nearby. “Public feedback indicated that the house had been abandoned for quite some time, and no occupants were present when the incident occurred,” Ramlan added.

He commended the swift response of the firefighters, which successfully prevented a larger disaster. “Thanks to the quick action taken, only minimal damage was reported and no injuries occurred,” he confirmed.

The fire department has reminded the public against irresponsible open burning, especially during dry periods, as such activities can easily escalate into dangerous fire incidents threatening lives and property.

This case adds to the increasing number of fire incidents linked to open burning across the state, prompting calls for stronger community awareness and enforcement.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the area and investigate the root cause of the blaze.
