Minister of Education Supports Rural Digital Learning in Limbang

LIMBANG – The Minister of Education, YB Fadhlina Sidek, visited SMK Agama Limbang on Thursday, 7 May 2026, as part of the Parliamentary Follow-up Visit Series 1 to review the progress of rural digital education initiatives under Strategy 1: SIMPEL, the Rural Digital Education Model School.

The programme aims to close the technology access gap between urban and rural schools, while equipping students with digital competencies through structured and inclusive learning support.

This initiative is particularly significant for Sarawak, where many schools are located in interior and rural areas.

During the visit, YB Fadhlina emphasised that digital education remains a key agenda in the national education roadmap, the Malaysia Education Plan (RPM) 2026–2035.

She highlighted the importance of strengthening digital infrastructure, expanding access to smart learning, enhancing teacher competencies, and ensuring students master digital literacy and artificial intelligence (AI).

The minister explained that empowering rural schools through the Rural Digital Education Model School concept would create more equitable learning opportunities.

By integrating technology effectively and sustainably, students in rural areas can benefit from quality education comparable to their urban counterparts.

As a gesture of support, YB Fadhlina presented RM10,000 in digital professional support to SMK Agama Limbang, SK Limbang, SK Bandar Limbang, and SK Limpaku Pinang.

Additionally, SK Telahak and SK Lubok Tekurok received RM5,000 each, along with smartboards to enhance digital teaching and learning.

The visit was attended by several key figures, including Hasbi Habibollah; Mr Zainal bin Abas, Deputy Director-General of Education Malaysia (School Operations Sector); Mr Omar bin Mahli, Director of Education Sarawak; Dr Les anak Met, Deputy Director of the School Management Sector of JPN Sarawak; and Puan Mariam binti Salleh, Limbang District Education Officer.

Senior officers from the Ministry of Education Malaysia, JPN Sarawak, and the Limbang District Education Office also joined the programme.

The initiative reflects the Ministry of Education’s ongoing commitment to ensuring inclusive, technology-based education across Malaysia.
