Quick Action Saves Toddler Trapped in Locked Car at India Street

Quick Action Saves Toddler Trapped in Locked Car at India Street

KUCHING, 23 May 2025 – A routine day turned into a moment of panic when a two-year-old girl was accidentally locked inside a car along the busy India Street in front of the Satex premises. The incident, which happened around 4:00 pm, drew the attention of nearby shoppers and passersby who witnessed the swift response by the Fire and Rescue Department.

According to a statement by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), an emergency call was received at 4.11 pm. In response, a rescue team from Padungan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was dispatched immediately to the scene.

Upon arriving just three minutes later, firefighters found the young child trapped inside a Perodua Bezza. It is believed that the car doors had accidentally locked after the child’s parents briefly stepped away, unintentionally leaving her inside.

“Our team used special tools to carefully open the vehicle’s door without damaging it and successfully rescued the child,” said a JBPM spokesperson.

Thankfully, the child was unharmed and was safely reunited with her parents. The rescue operation concluded at 4.20 pm after the scene was declared safe and under control.

This incident serves as a strong reminder to all parents to double-check their vehicles before walking away, especially when children are involved. Accidental lock-ins can turn dangerous very quickly due to heat and stress on the child.

Thanks to the quick response by JBPM Padungan, what could have been a tragedy ended safely and swiftly.
