LUBOK ANTU – Rural development in Lubok Antu received a boost with the announcement of new allocations totalling RM150,000, aimed at supporting grassroots activities and improving community facilities.
Deputy Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh revealed that RM20,000 has been channelled to the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) Sebungko to strengthen community programmes and initiatives.
In addition, RM130,000 has been approved under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) for the construction of a new community centre in Kampung Hilir, Lubok Antu. The facility is expected to provide residents with a more comfortable and conducive space for social and community activities.
Dr Mussen explained that the allocation reflects the Sarawak government’s commitment to ensuring balanced development across both urban and rural areas. He noted that improved infrastructure not only enhances residents’ comfort but also acts as a catalyst for strengthening local social and economic activities.
He made the announcement during a Chinese New Year visit to the home of Kapitan Yo Yo, who also serves as Chairman of JKKK Sebungko. The visit underscored the government’s efforts to remain close to the people while delivering development initiatives that directly benefit communities.
Dr Mussen emphasised that the role of JKKK is crucial in driving village-level development. He expressed hope that the new allocation would empower the committee to implement more impactful programmes, thereby improving the well-being and quality of life of residents in Sebungko and Kampung Hilir.
The construction of the new community centre is expected to serve as a focal point for gatherings, cultural events, and grassroots activities, reinforcing the spirit of unity and cooperation among residents.
Leaders believe that such projects are essential in bridging development gaps and ensuring that rural communities enjoy the same opportunities as their urban counterparts.
With the RTP allocation, Lubok Antu continues to benefit from Sarawak’s broader rural development agenda, which prioritises infrastructure, education, and community empowerment. The initiative reflects the government’s long-term vision of creating inclusive growth and raising living standards across the state.
