Kuching (23 October) – In an evening filled with joy and cultural celebration, the Majlis Sejambak Kasih Deepavali 2024 was held at the Pullman Hotel, thanks to the collaboration between the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) and Yayasan Petronas under their “Memacu Kehidupan” initiative. The event aimed to bring cheer to those in need during the Festival of Lights.
Manjeet Sidhu, the President of the Persatuan Perpaduan India Sarawak (PPIS) and Chartered President of the Lions Club Kuching Unity, was among the honored invitees at the event.
Monetary aid and food packages, including biscuits, were distributed to about 45 recipients, with special attention given to families living in poverty. Additionally, three recipients were awarded the Kenyalang Gold Card, further supporting the welfare of Sarawak’s elderly.
The event was officiated by YB Datuk Hj Razi, who also entertained the crowd by singing Hindi songs and dancing poco poco, adding a festive Bollywood touch to the celebration. The presence of Indian NGOs enhanced the significance of the occasion, making it a memorable event for everyone in attendance.
