Malaysia Day 2025 in Bintulu Marks Unity and Sarawak’s Progress

Malaysia Day 2025 in Bintulu Marks Unity and Sarawak’s Progress

BINTULU – The Malaysia Day 2025 celebration, to be held in Bintulu from September 14 to 16, has been described as a powerful symbol of unity and proof of the rapid development enjoyed by Sarawakians since joining the Federation of Malaysia 62 years ago.

Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development of Sarawak, Dato Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom, said the celebration will focus on five main pillars with a variety of official and community programmes. Among them are a thanksgiving ceremony, the Malaysia Day Run, and a people’s concert.

“This event not only commemorates the formation of Malaysia but also reflects the transformation of the Sarawakian people from the simple life of the past to the progress we enjoy today.

“We are now witnessing modern bridges replacing sampans and ferries. What was once thought impossible has now become reality,” he said during a press conference at the Imperial Bintulu Hotel on Tuesday.

Dr. Stephen added that the progress achieved has raised income levels and purchasing power, particularly among rural farmers and fishermen, proving the government’s continuous effort to uplift the people’s standard of living.

He highlighted the success of Agrofest 2025 in Bintulu, which attracted more than 1.1 million visitors and generated RM6.35 million in economic impact, as further evidence of Sarawak’s potential as a key driver of national growth.

He also urged Sarawakians to gather at the Former Old Airport Site in Bintulu on September 16 to celebrate Malaysia Day together.

“This celebration is significant not only from a historical perspective but also in nurturing the spirit of unity and love for both state and country. This spirit is our strength, and it must be passed on to the next generation,” he said.

The main celebration on September 16 will be graced by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, as well as Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.

The highlight event will be broadcast live on TVS Channel 122 Astro and MyTV, as well as the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) social media platforms. – UKAS
